The Cock-a-mouse
Today I had my first experience with a New York cockroach, at least I think it was a cockroach, it was too fast for me to see but it was big and black and I was busy screaming. Thankfully my super came to my rescue...
This is me trying to cook while simultaneously being scared the cock-a-mouse will eat my feet

Day at the Met
Yesterday Pietro and I decided to go visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art, one of the most famous art museums in the country. We started our day off with a picnic in Central Park (more to save money than to be romantic but it was a beautiful day so it was nice)
Then we met Pietro's friend Eddie and his friend Sam on the steps of the Met (gorgeous)
We waited in line for 45 minutes to see the Alexander McQueen exhibit which was pretty cool (but didn't allow pictures) Then we saw the musical instruments exhibit, Japanese art, Chinese art, Arms and Armor, Van Gogh and Monet.

Meeting Friends
The past few days have been so full of exploring I haven't had time to post as I go!
Let's start with Friday. My furniture came during the day and I spent the afternoon getting frustrated with IKEA directions, but I finally succeeded in building my dresser all by myself after two hours.
Pietro came over after work and we went to meet one of his friends from Princeton, Dale, for dinner in Chinatown. After a delicious dinner of shrimp, egg whites, bamboo, and squash (and of course a bubble tea stop as we were in china town) we decided to go sit in Washington Sq. Park for a while. Dale was only visiting the city for a few days and had never seen this part of the city before, So we went as the sun was setting and sat and talked in the park for a long time. It was beautiful and the weather was perfect.
Then Pietro and I went back to my apt to assemble my desk and desk chair, I ended up doing most of it myself but I was proud when it was finally done (pictures will come later).
Saturday was pretty much perfect. Pietro and I went out for breakfast and got DELICIOUS bagels (its true what they say, the NY water really does make a difference in the bagels) and walked to Union Sq. We saw a cute farmer's market there and Pietro showed me the building that he works in.
Great. Day.

We walked around and found yet another bubble tea place which had the MOST DELICIOUS tea ever at Argo Tea Cafe. The bubbles were not tapioca so that was a shame but if they had been it would have been hands down the best bubble tea we've ever had. They actually used real tea and milk instead of flavor powder like most places.
After that we met with three of Pietro's friends from Princeton Eddie, Carlos, and Tian-Yi (his roommate) who are all spending the summer in the city. We had lunch at a delicious Thai restaurant, Bodhi Tree, where you could get two appetizers and an entree for only $7. Thoroughly stuffed, we walked around union sq. did some window shopping, and walked back to Wash Sq. Park where we sat and talked with Carlos. After parting ways with him we decide to go grocery shopping and walk down the street from my apt and lo and behold the entire street is blocked off from cars for a large fair. The street was lined with vendors selling food, clothes, jewelry, crafts etc. it was awesome. We bought some candy apples and walked up and down looking at everything.

Chinatown Adventure
So today I felt like exploring, so Pietro and I decided
to walk to Chinatown to explore and find bubble tea.
Chinatown made me anxious because it was a lot
more crowded than the rest of New York (hard to
believe I know) and there were a lot of fish markets
so it smelled in some spots. It
was fun to look at though and pass the
fresh markets and Chinese signs and check out
possible awesome Chinese food restaurants. As
some of you know Pietro and I share a GREAT love
of bubble tea (It's like a drug to me). We aim to be
bubble tea connoisseurs. We did find awesome
bubble tea at this place called
Ten Ren Teatime which was entirely devoted to all
types and flavors of tea. We ordered Lychee (our
favorite flavor) and Plum and shared both. The
Lychee was great, best in New York so far and
better than the one in Woodbridge. Very close to as
good as our favorite bubble tea haven Fruity Yogurt
in Princeton, NJ. The plum was not as great, too
intensely strong flavored for us. On our way back
we stopped in a few Chinese grocery stores so
Pietro could search for his favorite bottled tea from
his time studying in China. It was impressive to see
him talk and joke with the owners in Chinese. So
proud :) As we were walking back we decided to
be super nerdy and take the bubble tea hobby to the
next level. We are going to keep a database of
every bubble tea place we visit and rate each tea on
a scale of 1-5. Maybe someday we will make a
website with the info.
My furniture is supposed to be delivered tomorrow so pictures of a furnished apartment may come soon!
